Back Pain Relief

casual man with back painBack pain is the most common reason patients seek chiropractic care. At The Chiro Lab , we offer a comprehensive approach to correcting the underlying cause of your back pain so you can get back to doing the things you love to do.

Is Back Pain Dangerous?

Fortunately, 90% of low back pain is not related to any serious medical condition. In fact, our backs are inherently strong and robust, and although the pain can be severe, the condition itself usually isn’t.

Why Does It Hurt So Much?

Pain is our body’s alarm system. When your body senses a threat to its health or function, it becomes highly sensitised and raises the alarm—through the sensation of pain. Our intuition is to protect the area that hurts through bed rest.

However, this is the opposite of what we need to do. When we become overprotective of the area, our body perceives that the threat is even greater and may cause the pain to persist longer. To put it simply, the bigger the problem we think our back pain is, the bigger the problem tends to become.

In fact, bed rest can lead to muscle deconditioning, stiffness, decreased circulation and diminished function, all of which can make it take longer to heal.

Reducing the Threat

Instead, staying active and continuing with your normal daily activities as much as you can helps reduce your body’s perception of threat. Of course, you’ll need to avoid activities that trigger intense spasms, but it’s important to keep moving. Seeking chiropractic care to locate and correct the underlying cause of the problem may reduce your pain and speed the healing process.

How We Help

Our chiropractor, Bentley Woon, offers a variety of chiropractic adjusting techniques to suit your situation, including manual and instrument-assisted methods. He also offers soft tissue therapies such as myofascial release, post-isometric relaxation (PIR) and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) to address the soft tissue component of your pain, and he can help with rehab exercises you can do on your own to facilitate healing and help prevent future problems.
